Useful Verses

These are the verses which made it past the second draft but were taken out when I down selected to the most appropriate two commentary verses. If you are so inclined you can read them and guess where they came from.

Isaiah 43:25 - “I am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake, and I will not remember your sins.”

1 Chronicles 29:12-13 “Both riches and honor come from You, and You rule over all. In Your hand are power and might, and in Your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all.  And now we thank You, our God, and praise Your glorious name.”

Psalms 34:22 - “The LORD redeems the life of His servants; none of those who take refuge in Him will be condemned.”

Leviticus 20:10- “And the man who commits adultery with another man's wife, he who commits adultery with his neighbor’s wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.”

In the Old Testament the cities of refuge foreshadowed our release from the law. When the high priest died the guilty were freed from the condemnation that stood over them.
 

Numbers 35:11- “then you shall select cities to be cities of refuge for you, that the manslayer who kills any person without intent may flee there.”
 

Numbers 35:28– “For he must remain in his city of refuge until the death of the high priest, but after the death of the high priest the manslayer may return to the land of his possession.”

Exodus 9:27- “Then Pharaoh sent and called Moses and Aaron and said to them, "This time I have sinned; the Lord is in the right, and I and my people are in the wrong.”

Matthew 26:24 - “The Son of Man goes as it is written of Him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born." Judas, who would betray Him, answered, "Is it I, Rabbi?" He said to him, "You have said so.”

Matthew 7:11 - "If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!”

Genesis 8:21 - “And when the Lord smelled the pleasing aroma, the Lord said in His heart, "I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intention of man's heart is evil from his youth. Neither will I ever again strike down every living creature as I have done.”

Isaiah 62:2 - “The nations shall see your righteousness, and all the kings your glory, and you shall be called by a new name that the mouth of the LORD will give.”

Luke 16:16-17 - “The Law and the Prophets were until John; since then the good news of the kingdom of God is preached, and everyone forces his way into it.  But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one dot of the Law to become void.”

John 19:16-18- “So he delivered Him over to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus, and He went out, bearing His own cross, to the place called the place of a skull, which in Aramaic is called Golgotha.  There they crucified Him, and with Him two others, one on either side, and Jesus between them.”

1 Kings 9:6b-7a- “But if you will at all turn from following Me, you or your children, and will not keep My commandments and My statutes which I have set before you but go and serve other gods and worship them, then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them, and this house, that I have hallowed for My name, I will cast out of My sight.”

Judges 2:11, 14 - “The children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD and served Baalim […] and the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and He delivered them into the hands of plunderers who plundered them, and He sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could no longer stand before their enemies.”

Deuteronomy 32:39-41 - “See now that I, I am He, and there is no god with Me, I kill, and I make alive, I wound and I heal, neither is there any that can deliver out of My hand, for I lift up My hand to heaven, and say, ‘I live forever.’ If I sharpen My glittering sword, and My hand takes hold of judgment, I will render vengeance to My enemies and will reward those who hate Me.”

1 Peter 2:10 - “Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”

Hebrews 2:17 - “Therefore in all things it was essential for Him to be made like to his brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.”

Matthew 18:23-34-"Therefore the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his servants. When he began to settle, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. And since he could not pay, his master ordered him to be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and payment to be made. 1 Timothy 5:18- “For the Scripture says, "You shall not muzzle an ox when it treads out the grain," and, "The laborer deserves his wages."

Zechariah 2:11 - “And many nations shall join themselves to the LORD in that day, and shall be My people.  And I will dwell in your midst, and you shall know that the LORD of hosts has sent Me to you.”

Genesis 18:17-19 - “The LORD said, ‘Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do, seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? 2 Timothy 3:2a, 4c, 5-7 - “But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. 2 John1:8-11 - “Watch yourselves, so that you may not lose what we have worked for, but may win a full reward.  Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God.  Whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. Isaiah 55:10-11- “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall My word be that goes out from My mouth; it shall not return to Me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”

Hebrews 12:7-11- “It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.  Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? 1 John 1:1-3- “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life-- the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us-- that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.

Acts 9:11,13,15- “And the Lord said to him, "Rise and go to the street called Straight, and at the house of Judas look for a man of Tarsus named Saul, for behold, he is praying… But Ananias answered, "Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much evil he has done to your saints at Jerusalem… But the Lord said to him, "Go, for he is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel.”

Acts 17:2-4,17- “And Paul went in as was his custom, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures, explaining and proving that it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead, and saying “This Jesus whom I proclaimed to you, is the Christ.”  And some of them were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, as did a great many of the devout Greeks and not a few of the leading women… So he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and the devout persons, and in the marketplace every day with those who happened to be there.”

Galatians 2:9-10- “and when James and Cephas and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given to me, they gave the right hand of fellowship to Barnabas and me, that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised. Only, they asked us to remember the poor, the very thing I was eager to do.” 

Matthew 22:39a-40 - “You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”

John 4:24 - “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.”

Deuteronomy 10:12 - “What does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways, to love Him, and to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.”

Hebrews 11:17-19a - “By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac. And he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, of whom it was said, ‘That in Isaac will your descendents be called,’ accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead.”
